| Why are you considering getting a set if you don't even know what they do? Really, I'm curious. To answer your question, ported manifolds are more open and freer flowing than unported ones. The more air that can flow through them and the faster is can flow, the better. Increased airflow = increased power. That being said, stock manifolds need to be majorly ported (Mike Smith) to make a decent improvement. And they won't make that big a difference on stock turbos. Do some searching and figure out if they would be right for you. Start with the info in aliaZ's post.
